No. Never for books or movies. I develop my own opinions, and don't rely on anybody else.

Yes I read the reviews but sometimes a negative review makes me want to read the book more. Kind of like when Siskel and Ebert gave a movie 2 thumbs down and the movie turned out to be awesome.

absolutely not and I absolutely not. I'm blind I'm on audiobooks exclusively and when I click like on audible on a book and I want to read the synopsis and I have paragraph after paragraph of a newspaper or a magazine or quotes from another author that drives me batshit crazy just tell me about the book I don't care what Stephen King thought about it I don't care what Brandon Sanderson thought about it I just don't care just tell me what the book is about

Definitely. In fact I’ll read the reviews before I borrow from my local library.

so my book falls into urban fantasy, and I as a straight male am not necessarily the Target demographic for a lot of the material out there, so I find it useful to look up reviews on Goodreads to see if it's the kind of thing I'm looking for

No I buy most of my books in a book store and read the synopsis of the story and double check if it’s a first in the series if not I grab the first one

Depends on how expensive they are. I read reviews for durability not 'to know what's inside' when I read beforehand. But after I experience a story I'll always check if there's a review available.

I read the blurb, and may check out the author’s site, but that’s it really.

Rarely. If books are really popular, it's hard to ignore reviews on TV or the internet. I do read the flap information on the cover that describes the story.

Honestly, not really. I think the things I love in a book is often things I've found reviewers complain about. So reviews are always worthless to me. Most of the time I buy based on the story description, go off word of mouth from people I know irl, and occasionally take recommendations from specific YouTubers who I know have similar tastes to me.

only for audiobooks and only if the narration style isn't clear. Sometimes the reviewers will say if it is a duet narration

Sometimes. My taste and their taste can be quite different. Mostly only for books from authors I’ve never read before

I may look at the overall rating, but I rarely read the reviews because people like to spoil things

Actually no. Funny, as I do it for electronics, cinema films, games etc. Guess I trust my instinct. Or curiosity makes reviews irrelevant. 🙂

Maybe? Sometimes they’re on the back under the blurb but they don’t matter to me.

Only if someone recommended it to me. If I’m out in the wild looking for something new to read I’m just reading prologues mostly

I ALWAYS check out blurb and those that seem interesting I check a few reviews. Rarely make my decision based on reviews alone tho
