Extortionate childcare, no dental care, extortionate medical care after 8, then school costs , then god forbid orthodontics and now third level college fees increasing … very clear the government don’t give a rats about children.

Bring back the medical card to dentists and maybe parents would be able to afford it then 🙄

anything hse isn't surprising anymore our children are left to slip between the cracks, full of excuses and denial. my son is secondary school next month and hasn't been seen my daughter is also going into 4th and hasn't been called either 😳 private visits is the only way to keep up with their teeth and to get them familiar with dentists

hse dentists in my area aren't the most welcoming, I've 4 kids and thank god now that they are teens they are going to a private dentist.. most private dentists don't want to treat under 14's

so the country is overpopulated and not enough services to handle the population that's why we can't get gp appointments, speech therapists, OTs, places in schools, dentist app and so on. every sector is effected and yet people still keep coming in.

Hse dentist told me my youngest won’t get seen until she’s in 1st year. She’s in 1st class! Private dentists won’t take under 16’s so it’s private orthodontists which cost hundreds! Luckily she has great teeth and takes good care of them. Another child may not be so lucky. My older daughter was apparently the last year to get to see them pre secondary school 😳

I got a call 2 weeks ago asking if my son (who is about to start secondary school) if he wanted to come in for a check up in the HSE. When I said I didn’t need it as I have brought him private myself the reply was ok but you will be remove from the list to be called again when he is in 5th year of secondary

Rang HSE to get an appointment for my 6yo who had visibly the start of cavities and wanted to her to be seen before it became painful. I was told unless they are in extreme pain & unable to sleep due to pain will not be seen, and even then will have to ring up before 10am on the day to get an emergency appointment. The receptionist also said they are about 4 years behind on school checks. 2nd class appointment will probably come through the post when she’s in Secondary school. Disgraceful. 🤯🤯

my son was in first year when he got his appointment for the primary school, I was told it was due to a back log after covid😅 was told he needed braces but wouldn't be covered by hse and the overbite was too small. brought him to a private orthodontist and infact the measurements were wrong by the hse. I returned to the hse and told them this and she said " your better off going private because you will be waiting atleast 4 years and by then the damage to his teeth from the overbite will be extensive " ( private orthodontist confirmed this) so here i am paying thousands because of a waiting list that has no means of being reduced because of understaffed services and overpopulated communities. I am blessed I can do this for my son but how many can't

daughter is 4th class, son in 3rd and not 1 of them have had a screening. I worked in the HSE dental system over 14yrs ago and it struggled to meet some of the targets but now its extremely under staffed for the school service to be prioritised
