Yoriichi is the only reason why Muzan died hundreds of years later. He passed on his Sun breathing to the Kamado family in the form of a dance. He spared Tamayo, who created the poison which greatly impacted Muzan's state during the final battle. He created and taught others breathing styles which the Demon Slayer Corps would be incredibly weak without. In fact, he realized the others could not inherit his Sun breathing, so he created derivatives of his own breathing and taught those styles to the other swordsmen. He's the reason Tanjiro's sword got stronger because when Yoriichi Type Zero got busted open, the sword inside was his. That sword was the only sword that could withstand the heat of the Hinokami Kagura without breaking. The same sword that Tanjiro used to slay many strong demons and, ultimately, held Muzan down during the final hours by cycling through every form of Sun breathing. Perhaps he failed to kill Muzan directly, but without everything he's done throughout his lifetime, humanity would stand NO chance against demons.
