I’ve lived with an 85° kyphoscoliosis from a hemivertebrae since adolescence. That trauma shaped a hardened shell of compensatory fascia. But fascia can be remodeled. This movement recalibrates my body’s internal suspension system aka tensegrity (Levin, 2002) where muscles act as anchors and fascia distributes force like a suspension bridge. I’m not ā€œcontractingā€ fascia. I’m gripping and twisting the edges of my body’s fascial wetsuit, pulling and torquing fascial seams to encourage spiraled elongation and alignment (Myers, 2001) through my torso. As I stand, pressure and force spiral upward: foot to hand, limb to core, creating decompression and 3D extension (Schleip et al., 2012). Fascia adapts via mechanotransduction, when slow, intentional tension tells cells to reshape structure (Ingber, 2006). And yes, fascia holds memory (Langevin, 2006). This isn’t mainstream yet, because it takes real skill to feel this, and the research is only just emerging. I’m just applying the concepts being confirmed in this new research.
