I implemented a journal system. At the end of every session one player writes a journal from the perspective of their character on what happened. We then read that at the beginning of the following session. Some characters are serious and others are silly. The bards have often only talked about who they tried to go after which makes for a funny recap "Yes, they were a villain but also hot"

My table live streams our sessions we always have to recap. Not just for players but chat too. Used to be rotated amongst the players. Now DM. Heheh

My current campaign I’m playing in, I’m playing a sunshine child that writes their dads at the end of every session and tells them what they’ve been up to. Got it where everyone can add their own “p.s.” to it and it’s really cute

OR, hear me out, The winner gets to have the last gummy bear/piece of chocolate/chip/etc from the bag that session (and that session alone). it's not gonna be like, game changing, but it's gonna make all the players super competitive because the extra treat is just a physical sign of bragging rights

we did this once!! we were kinda on a break for scheduling reasons so we had a lore/npc info kahoot game one night and the winner got inspo for our first session back
