Exactly the problem with my son. He’s completed his last term at an independent school. Due to start school in September, has passed the Grammar exam (twice now) and although he’s been offered a place, he’s on a waiting list, an email from the council states that he’s on the waiting list, but if he doesn’t attend a school

It’s the mum and dads that are not wealthy that just work extra hard to send there kids to a indpendnat school that suffered they could only just afford to send there kids there anyway the VAT was the final nail in the coffin

I think if I were in this position I’d find tutors who will give one to one lessons or small group lessons which will be better for him in his subjects but the family will have to pay for his exams since they do not have a school place.

Well said. This government is so spiteful and driven by a hatred of ambition, enterprise and free thinking. It’s truly frightening and no surprise people who can are heading abroad. Given what they’ve ’achieved’ in a year god knows whats coming in the next four! I shudder to think…Keep it up.

Things I have Learnt :
the 13 - 15k kids who have left the private school sector does not include the children who did not apply for a place for the upcoming year. My daughter is moving into Year 7 and they have had a tiny intake for September vs the previous years...!

there was already a lack of school places. my daughter is going into year 5 and in year 2 there was that many children without a school place the council asked our school to have 3 classes in that year as they had an art room that could be used as a classroom. so for the last 3 years they have had 3 full classes for that year. this also implemented them changing and swapping classes around on 2 separate occasions disrupting the children after covid had disrupted the first 3 years if you count nursery or 2 years from reception.
