I was just having this conversation with a friend. I’m new to writing. I’m trying really hard to learn how to show and not tell, but I often worry if I go to subtle, important things will be missed. But im trying to be okay with that and cutting down the repetition.

THANK YOU! I feel this way about SO MANY books published recently. It’s turned me away from books getting a lot of hype on social media. While there’s still plenty of wonderful books being published with good writing, they’ve felt fewer and further between than usual.

I mean the books you speak of are out there, it’s just a matter of finding them. But publishing books has always been about casting the widest net. I remember James Patterson, Stephen King and other big names like that always got the publicity back in the day and it’s still the same but with different names as headlines.

You might like the locked tomb series, if you haven't read it. It's super subtext heavy, and the author somehow finds a more unreliable narrator each book. I literally had to read the series twice to get most of it.

I read a lot of what I like to call 'shitty romance'. Its easy fluff I can read quickly when I'm bored and oh my God there is SO MUCH in that genre that does this. 😭
