@bradbernsteinlaw: Trump’s DHS just proposed ending the random H‑1B lottery in favor of a wage-weighted selection system. High salaries get priority—but what about fresh grads and smaller companies? I’m a student nurse and I graduate on May 2026. I’m on F1 visa right now. Should I be worried?

Good. Top talent only. Entry level needs to be more geared towards citizens.

Okay!! Still waiting for what the problem is exactly, cus H1B visa was never meant for fresh graduates anyway. Why would any company hire fresh graduates overseas?🤔

higher salaries do not correlate to top talent or more educated talent. usually it correlates to industries with inflated salaries. this will heavily throw off the balance of immigrant and local talent in all fields disadvantaging both groups.

Why shouldn’t it be that way? Entry level jobs shouldn’t be hiring from outside the US, should they? But more than this they shouldn’t be allowed to lay off to hire people on visas.

No h1b should be paid less than locals. This could fix the scam.

This sounds as a great way to fulfill the original purpose of the Visa
And stop companies from using it as a fishing net for cheap labour.
It will greatly benefit the American worker and stop the cheap labour replacement.
Instead companies will focus on extraordinary talents in place of cheap foreign indentured servants.

Can be weighted by salary and years out of school. So highest salaries of new grads and experienced could both be preferential over lower paid jobs

The proposed change to the H-1B lottery system prioritizing higher salaries could benefit larger companies, but it might disadvantage fresh graduates and smaller businesses looking to hire skilled talent. The shift, expected to take effect by March 2026, raises questions about accessibility and fairness in the tech industry.

I'd like to see H1B visas get better worker protection. no more than 40 hours a week working. 6 months to find a new job if laid off or quitting for xyz reasons. Salary and stocks have to be above the median salary for the same position at the same company. right now, CEOs like using it to overwork them and pressure them into working harder than americans. removing that incentive will ensure top talent is selected over replacing qualified americans

This makes sense but higher salary doesn’t always equate higher talent. That would favor people in finance rather than other positions like education

Do they know the number of job opening FAANG has in India? Its directly proportional to the layoffs in US so people who think this will bring more jobs are in for a big surprise. Ohh also FAANG and other top tech companies are paying $100k+(yes USD) to engineers in India.
