Can Botox be reversed? A 2024 case series in Dermatologic Surgery (Rullan et al.) looked at 22 patients with brow ptosis after Botox. They were treated with bacteriostatic saline (BS) - a saline solution containing benzyl alcohol injected into the brow muscles. Key Findings: 86.4% improved after just one BS injection. All treatments were done within 1-3 weeks of Botox. Control patients who got regular saline or sterile water didn’t improve. Benzyl alcohol may alter cell membrane permeability, possibly flushing out the neurotoxin - but this remains a theory Limitations of the Study: Small sample size (22 patients) Retrospective design, not randomized, no double blinded control group Potential bias, Single practice series. Observer and selection bias possible Short term follow-up, long-term results unknown Mechanism is speculative, with no biochemical evidence yet Bottom Line: More clinical trials are needed before this can be considered standard practice.
