I genuinely cannot understand WHY people think the A10 is still a viable platform. is it cool? yeah. but its also designed for a war that never came. it cannot operate in contested airspace. it was designed to stop the flow of soviet tanks into the Balkans at a high damage and loss rate

people forget the psycological factor of aircraft there was a case in afganistan of tornadoes flying low and fast as they ran out of ammo to be of assistance and just the enemy knowing they were there was enough to win the day the a10 and its cannon is of nothing else going to make any armour think twicw about moving even if its not the direct target of the burt just hearing it might be enough to make someone think twice

I love the A-10, It's a beast.. But I agree the changes in tech and available options has changed.. Many options are far cheaper.. As much as I hate to say it.. It is time to let her retire!

I feel like itd be really cool with the new AI Wingmen, to have an Air to ground capability, if say there’s multiple TICs in an AO, the pilot could task out a drone to one tic and maybe the JTAC or GFC could take control of it through like a datalink system, ID the target for the drone and release ordinance on the target by the JTACs command so a human is making the decision to engage, then when theyre done they can give command back to the pilot

What about the Sky Warden? Are they only limiting that to Special Ops? It really is one of the cheapest platforms out there since it comes from a crop duster and the loiter time is basically the same, if not, greater than the A-10 right?
