So, we're not going to talk about how funny it is that a storm god went out to inspect the canals?

okay.. this isn't a super new myth... Ireshikigal - the FEMALE LORD OF THE UNDERWORLD - was fairly feared... in many stories she was either given or stole another god - in this case it's Iskur (Enlil's son - btw Ishtar/innan is typically seen as Enki's daughter although that is a bit battered around).... but a lot of times is Melkor (the eventual male ruler of hell as the myths changed)...
either way the Persephone/Hades story was originally reverse gender - and there are many instance of this across the ancient world...

Is this older than Inanna’s journey to the underworld? I’m wondering since he was a storm god and inspecting the canals if this myth points to a period where there was a drought severe enough to run the canals dry (until fox saved iskur and brought back the rain/saved the harvest)?
