That quote is very good advice, it's to be true to yourself not to let others dictate who you are.

hes referring to what Clark believed it meant before, that he heard his parents loved him so much they would do all that for him, AND pa was also reinforcing the principles that goodness had to be an active choice that Clark could make the easier choice any day, but they raised him to not make easy choices

Yeah Clark isn’t under the authority of his parents who gave him that message, he’s acting independently and according to his values as they’ve been reinforced by what they said and what he made of it. Very different than supporting their mission

well thats not what it meant. he meant clark was a good person and so assumed the best and that his parents would want him to help people. he didnt mean "its ok to think whatever u want"

Interesting. Haven’t seen the movie but this made me think about breaking generational cycles, not only within families but also communities & religions. If only we all had the same ‘Superman’ ability to recognise the influence that societal structures & institutions have on our lives that are actually at odds with our core values, the world would be a different place. Questioning where our beliefs come from & assessing the impact of those beliefs on our own lives & the lives of others should be taught in school. Actually, I remember studying The Wave in highschool. It really highlighted the dangers of groupthink & the ease at which it can take effect.
