@emsavenger: New York set a precedent when they increased the pay for app-based delivery drivers. They made a statement that when you are providing a neccessary service and working full time you should be able to support yourself. We need to turn the screws on NY AND THE REST OF THE COUNTRY and get them to extend this courtesy to a public service entity that lays it all out in the line every day as the first people responding to someone in crisis, and taking their trauma on in the process. #EMS #EMT #EMTS #PARAMEDICS #PARAMEDICSOFTIKTOK #FDNY #NYC
40k an hour might actually get me to go to Paramedic School!

Yup. It’s one of the reasons I didn’t take a job with FDNY. Even though it would be great experience.

Non-fdny NYC medic here- I work for voluntary hospital we start EMTs at $31/hr and medics st $44/hr. That’s middle of the road pay for nonfdny. Everyone hates that EMS is a thing they have to do but fire likes to pad numbers in call volume and diversity.

I think it’s virtually guaranteed any EMT/paramedic will make less than 40k an hour 😂 I’m sorry, I had to

NYC uses FDNY EMS and voluntery units (hospital based) to staff 911 buses, Voluntary units are looked down on by fdny even tho they handle approximately 60% of the workload, 911 units do not do IFT and responses, 911 units sit on street posts and run over 6000 calls a day rarely seeing their post on a 8 or 12 hour tour, 12+ jobs per 12 hour shift has become the norm, every other paid garage and private company besides fdny pays more but don't get the same benefits and are seen as a afterthought by the fire department even though ems runs are the majority of fire department runs

So yall are aware.. I just moved to southern Massachusetts and the pay rate is 40/hr for IFT’s, 60/hr for overtime, and an extra $3 overnight. So… that.

I get paid $20 an hr working private IFT in the Chicago area. I would make $16 on a 911 truck. That is as a basic.

the sooner we get louder in politics and not let other professions speak for us or devalue us as a separate profession from FF. The sooner we can start demanding things.

A large part of the problem is that EMS is used as a backdoor to the fire dept in NYC. As of now, about 75% of EMTs are registered for the fire promotional. They don’t pay more cause they can fill up the job with people who actually want to be firefighters

The debt-to-income ratio is unheard of. Alternatively, private hospital services can rank up to 70,000 or greater but with triple taxes and union dues you’re still netting 30k less.

NYC Council can only pass wage laws for non-city workers. All city unions must negotiate with the Mayor's office and OMB for a contractual wage. City Council has been very supportivd in our push for parity, but every Mayor doesnt care. They wont even give us a uniformed percentage raise like fire and PD, despite being a uniformed service since 2002.

People of ny treat ems like a homeless clean up crew and ride now pay later service. There aren’t enough ambulances to handle the call volume. Everyone needs an ambulance and gets mad when they show up late. units are getting pulled from another borough to respond to another borough. City still sees ems as non essential, nor do they recognize ems as first responders. The city and higher ups instead of fixing their triage system. People are starting to call 911 for inconvenience vs life threatening emergencies. Pay these people a livable wage so you won’t have much of a staffing issues.

Until EMS is under the tax base, the pay won’t improve. The payment methodology (Medicare, Medicaid) just doesn’t do it
