@isa.castro323: All of the advice from the comments in my last video in one place! It seems like we’re all struggling, this is what I’ve taken away from everyone who responded and reached out. 1) networking is everything. Leverage your network and make new connections. 2) indeed and company websites for applying, LinkedIn for networking 3) apply EARLY 4) use staffing agencies for contract work 5) being picky vs casting a wider net #jobsearch
Ux design isn’t going to be a career in 5 years. Switch to more technical marketing field. Try product design and development or even project management as you already know figma.

I was able to secure a few offers in this market in tech with 0 experience. Here’s how to do it: find a job near your location, apply online and literally go into their office and hand in your resume and speak to the manager. I did this for 2 jobs and both gave me the offer. Show them you take initiative and are excited to work there. Bring good energy!

Very unlikely to get a Product Manager role. Your experience is, from what you described, seems limited and niche. If you can code maybe take coding contracts. I see people with no experience get into PMing. But that is on-site and in random smaller market cities.

apply to Controls Engineer positions, its a mix of some programming and HMI/SCADA design work and you can come from any technical background and be good at it. I have a BA in Physics and ive been doing controls for 3.5 years lol

I’m a sophomore in college but I’m also looking into UX Design, Product design and Product Management. I would shift my focus to trying to monopolize off of Tik Tok cause it’s a way to get paid without the job market which is ridiculous but seeing people make thousands of dollars every week just seems like the better option. You can even just do what you’re doing and share your experience or make UX related videos

Have you considered building something like a digital product either solo or with somebody while you're applying? The job market is terrible right now and you might be wasting years of your life with nothing to show for it, might as well try to build something in the meanwhile.

As an AVP of my software company I listen for only what the candidate did not what you did as a team. also Do you share your portfolio in your interviews? This is super critical as a UX designer as your work is super visual. I hired a UX designer on his portfolio alone. He told a great story for each of his bodies of work. He was on my staff for 9 years. I miss him every day.

Offering your skills on platforms like Fiverr or Upwork could be a great next step. There’s a lot of opportunity right now, especially with global support for engineers looking to relocate or work internationally.
I loved the Grace Hopper and SWE conferences. Interview and special event invitations often come months in advance, so it’s good to plug in early. You might want to join their Facebook or LinkedIn groups to start prepping for November. There are also active Discord communities where people share updates, resources, and support.
There are still scholarships available as well. AnitaB.org offers full scholarships for Grace Hopper that cover travel, lodging, and registration. SWE also awards scholarships year-round. For research-based events, ACM-W provides travel grants that are worth checking out.
Hackathons are another great opportunity. Many are sponsored by major tech companies and often include chances to connect with recruiters. If you’re curious about project management or freelancing, this could be the perfect time to begin exploring that path.
I’m happy to help you get connected to any of the groups or opportunities mentioned. You’re doing great and there’s so much ahead of you.
