Brian May of Queen made a similar choice. His parents, both academicians I believe, expected him to pursue the same track. I remember him mentioning that his parents were convinced only when they attended a Queen concert at the Madison Square Garden 😀 I believe he went back to complete his studies after Freddie passed away.

It’s a bit like Achilles’ decision between a glorious but short life and a long but uneventful life. Except that Lundgren has had the best of both worlds. And there was nothing to stop him from continuing to learn. Though I will say that, even as an MIT graduate, there’s no guarantee he would beneficially contribute to humanity as a chemical engineer.

John Von Neumann deserves it, he was so smart and peculiar they completely omitted him from the novel and movies because he would've stolen the spotlight from Oppi. Despite the fact that he was fundamental for the creation of the bomb and its landing place.
