The issue concerning any church and its practices should be “Is this biblical?” If a teaching is Biblical (taken in context), it should be embraced. If it is not, it should be rejected. God is more interested in whether a church is doing His will and obeying His Word than whether it can trace a line of succession back to Jesus’ apostles. Jesus was very concerned about abandoning the Word of God to follow the traditions of men (Mark 7:7). Traditions are not inherently invalid…there are some good and valuable traditions. Again, the issue must be whether a doctrine, practice, or tradition is Biblical. How then does the Roman Catholic Church compare with the teachings of the Word of God?
Salvation: The Roman Catholic Church teaches that salvation is by baptismal regeneration and is maintained through the Catholic sacraments unless a willful act of sin is committed that breaks the state of sanctifying grace. The Bible teaches that we are saved by grace which is received through simple faith (Ephesians 2:8-9), and that good works are the result of a change of the heart wrought in salvation (Ephesians 2:10; 2 Corinthians 5:17) and the fruit of that new life in Christ (John 15).
Assurance of salvation: The Roman Catholic Church teaches that salvation cannot be guaranteed or assured. 1 John 5:13 states that the letter of 1 John was written for the purpose of assuring believers of the CERTAINTY of their salvation.
Good Works: The Roman Catholic Church states that Christians are saved by meritorious works (beginning with baptism) and that salvation is maintained by good works (receiving the sacraments, confession of sin to a priest, etc.) The Bible states that Christians are saved by grace through faith, totally apart from works (Titus 3:5; Ephesians 2:8-9; Galatians 3:10-11; Romans 3:19-24).

i left a church because i didnt agree with all the doctrines they taught. Felt like i was being fake trying to follow all the rules but not being convicted myself about them. I questioned a lot and seemed like so much stuff was manmade. I wanted to have my own personal walk with God and i have felt like the non-denominational churches let me do that. When people in public asked why we did certian things i wouldnt know because thats just how i grew up and we just arent allowed to do those things. Couldnt even explain to people what my true beliefs were and how those rules made sense in the Bible.

I urge you again to read the NEV Bible. This is Gods blueprint for us. Catholicism is more man made traditions giving power to priests. As a former Catholic no where in the Bible does it talk about not eating meat on Friday or even confessing to a priest or other matters. And seek on YouTube Pastor Chris Durkin lectures on the differences in the churches

I think somewhere there is a confusion. Why do people think non denominational churches don’t participate in the Eucharist? I have gone to different churches and they all did the Eucharist? I’m genuinely confused on why people keep saying this. Someone answer my question. Am I missing something?

The Catholic Church has the Eucharist. Study the 6th Chapter of John and pay attention to 6:66. Ask yourself if you’d have left Jesus? Also study the church fathers. Particularly their thoughts on the Eucharist. Early Christian circa 107 AD believed in the real presence.

Satan will duplicate, imitate, and perform miracles like God. He was not stripped completely from performing miracles. That's why Jesus said that if it were possible the elect can be deceived.

Idk if I should be giving advice here but .. don’t think I ever knew it was a sin to eat meat on Fridays during Lent. I thought it was more of making a sacrifice during Lent and giving up meat may be the Sacrifice maybe it’s giving up social media or something else you like during Lent. My prayers are with you. I appreciate that you are searching and not giving up on your Catholic faith. I have loved being back to my Catholic faith after 20+ years of being a lost sheep. I’m still learning what I don’t know! But yes the best thing I ever did as a Catholic was getting spiritual direction from my priest! So yes make an appointment with the priest for a few months!

A sin is a sin—God sees them all the same. I was a practicing Catholic my whole life, but about a year ago, I began to truly seek God, and He started showing me things that didn’t sit right—especially about salvation.
The Catholic Church teaches that good works are part of what gets you to heaven, but I’ve come to believe that’s not true. None of us are good enough—not one. Even a single lie falls short of God’s standard. That’s why Jesus died for us. It’s not about being good, it’s about having a real, personal relationship with our Heavenly Father.
For a while, we prayed the rosary daily. But over time, I realized we were speaking to the dead—something Scripture never tells us to do. The Bible doesn’t say that Mary or any of the saints can hear us, or that we should pray to them.
It’s a lot to unpack, I know—but I just wanted to share where my heart is now

There’s plenty miracles without the Eucharist, bc again it’s all about faith.

So every catholic church in The world has the correct Eucharist with the blood that can create miracles. I’m confused. But , I believe that questioning things definitely will take you on a dive into Gods word. I’m still learning too. I’m also confused on how not to lean on my own understanding….

What if you just stripped it all down forgetting what denomination you are and just studied Jesus and what he did in the New Testament and just go from there about where you feel lead. Since Ultimately you want to follow God it may be a better choice to figure out the Truth about him through studying the word and seeing what church aligns with those beliefs best

I personally don’t think you are going to find a perfect church that aligns with everything you want to believe. The Catholic Church has maybe had mistakes because the people doing them and changing are still sinners they are not above God. That also comes with history because the Catholic Church has existed for more than 2000 years. But I overall believe for what it stands for because of the Eucharist you can’t get that anywhere and now that I am older I believe more in it. You can’t find great preaching at a non-denominational church but not the Eucharist thats why I will never leave my catholic faith.

My mother always said eating meat on Fridays during lent is not a sin. It’s the disobedience and the arrogance that says I don’t have to listen to anybody else that’s the sin

Matthew 16:19. Your issue is with trusting the authority of the church. Actually you still have to do a penance on every Friday even after Vatican 2. It just doesn’t have to be the penance of not eating meat. But not doing any penance on Friday is a mortal sin today. Hopefully that makes sense. So doesn’t seem contradictory to me and submit to the authority of Rome even if I don’t fully agree immediately

Brother Martin. The Word of God endures forever. It is neverchanging. Man-made rules and doctrines can be changed or added, but go to the source that we know to be eternal. Though it’s true some sins are greater than others, the idea that committing sin after accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour sends you to hell suggests the insufficiency of Christ’s atonement through His death. Jesus would also be lying in John 10:29.

That is crazy to me. A lot of Protestants believe in the Eucharist. John 6. He is the Passover lamb. Also eating meat is like a celebration so eating meat on Friday, the day Jesus was crucified, is like celebrating the crucifixion and his suffering… then during lent where we are supposed to be in reflection about his sacrifice for us. That’s messed up to me… but also Jesus gave the power to the Bishops to bind and loose things in the church. So I will never not be Catholic because that means that I purposely deny the words of Jesus.

Why do you need to do a sacrifice? Jesus is the sacrificial lamb. If His sacrifice wasn’t enough then what good was it? He paid it ALL, not some…ALL

The Catholic Church’s practice of abstaining from meat during Lent is rooted in tradition, not Scripture, and imposes a man made rule that can distract from genuine spiritual growth. While intended to foster penance, it risks legalism, as Colossians 2:16-17 warns against judging others based on food or observances, emphasizing faith over rituals.

The USCCB has juristiction but the rest of the world has to abide and follow that rule. However, different countries/areas can change rules like this. The USCCB says to do something that would be harder, then.
