@kelbel1908: Her great-grandfather was a slave owner! #blackhistory #blackhistoryfacts #america #ushistory #slavery #africanamericanhistory @DJIII Update: After the oral history was shared, some comments mentioned the dates seeming off after researching Hamilton B. Dickson. Ms. Frances, who is my husband’s grandmother, shared what she was told by her parents and her grandmother (Fannie Dickson Alton). It was believed that the guy in the statue was her father but when Fannie was born in 1865, he would have been only age 10. There’s a family tie with him but who he really is seems questionable at the time.
so much history God bless her ,her story is so powerful such wisdom and back then they had woman the kept in the house and ones for the fields ,she is history herself she should write her story of her past and present such a beautiful and powerful picture

He became her great grand father, because he could have graped her black great grand mother, finally resulting in the baby. And his wife most likely didn't want them around, as a constant reminder of his infidelity, so he decided to sell them both for £125 😔

People are still trying to convince us that slavery was so long ago. My grandmother was also born a slave. As a child I would brush her hair.

The oldest living family member in my family is my cousin and she’s 94. She tells us all the time how her gma was sold for $50, at the time the cost was $25 but they sold her for an extra $25
