@ancestralwhispersdotorg: Facial reconstruction of a 3,300-year-old man from Dagestan The Ginchi necropolis in Dagestan spans multiple periods. This individual was found in the Late Bronze Age layer of the site. The Bronze Age people of Ginchi were descendants of the Kura-Araxian culture, with additional Steppe ancestry from Eneolithic to Catacomb sources. Genetically sampled Bronze Age individuals from Ginchi were exclusively of a single Y-DNA haplogroup — J1-Z1842 — which remains the dominant haplogroup among modern Dagestanis. Additionally, the autosomal DNA profile of the Ginchi population forms the core component of the modern Dagestanian gene pool, indicating a high degree of genetic continuity. The Bronze Age population of Dagestan showed considerable variation in cranial size. Some individuals had relatively medium-sized skulls, with an average cranial length of 187 mm, width of 138 mm, and cheekbone width of 133 mm — even smaller than in modern Dagestanis. Others exhibited very large cranial dimensions, with a massive cranial length of 206 mm, a medium-large width of 145 mm, a very large cranial height of 147 mm, and broad cheekbones measuring 140 mm.
