I’m so sorry that the healthcare system now sees everyone as a drug seeker when most just want a small reprieve from 24/7 pain. It takes a lot for most chronic pain patients to even step foot in the er because they know how they’re going to be treated. It’s really sad. And on top of that the nurses and doctors these schools are churning out are not taught compassion.

The arragance of people who don’t work in healthcare is insane. ER staff could be dealing with combative patients while coding someone or intubating multiple critical people. People need to understand unless you’re actively dying, you will be waiting in the waiting room for hours period.

As someone in the back might of had their arm cut off or had a massive heart attack So ya it’s not rude And a 10 pain u wouldn’t be conscious awake

It happens. I was in the midst of a major asthma attack, O2 was in the 80s, they made me sit with oxygen on waiting for 30 minutes. By the time I made it back I completely coded and woke up from a coma two weeks later.

10 out of 10 is like getting your arm ripped off level of pain just to be clear.

pain is subjective. pain level is not how triage is done.

Everybody that walks into the ER says their pain as they level 10. Most of the time they won’t give pain meds until after x-rays, CT scans or bloodwork. Because they don’t need the pain meds masking things that are going on so they hold off giving Pain meds until blood work comes back, the radiologist reads the x-rays or the scans, etc. and it’s not rude. It’s what hospitals practice so they know how to treat the patient.

We can't always control how long it takes to get the x-ray but I don’t know why some type of pain med couldn't have been given

Pain is irrelevant. We triage, and treat based on severity. Be glad she wasn't rushed back, you never want to be in that position.

1. Pain doesn't affect triage 2. If she needs surgery, certain meds need to be held

I’m sorry to the small minds who think level 10 pains are comparably the same for everyone. I’ve been a 10 when I shouldn’t have been and I’ve been a 3 when I should have been a 10. We all handle pain differently, there’s literally no comparison.

be thankful she wasn’t in a dire position to be needed to be seen right aware. waiting in the er means you’re not in a serious position and that’s a privilege

Exhibit A on why you can’t even pay nurses $80 an hour where I live to deal with patients. If this was my place I’d proactively NOT help with every and any delay to treatment if this is how you’re going to act- and doctors will side with me.
