@thecabinontheriver: Dittany (Cunila origanoides) our ‘Native’ Oregano is about to bloom (look for purple flowers) making it easy to find, and ID. It’s often found dry rocky woods and clearings. It’s a member of the Mint Family, you’ll notice a square stem with opposite leaves. If you crush a leaf you’ll smell the strong scent of oregano. Like its cousin oregano, Dittany has a very similar smell with a slightly spicy flavor. The leaves and flowers are great as a herbal tea, seasoning for pizza, meatballs, or infused into vinegar for salad dressing. #springfieldmo #foraging #oregano #oreganooil
