i think a lot of ppl dont realize that gay bars are typically very closed spaces, by nature of the commmunity typically knowing each other and bring pretty insular. like ofc they'd be a bit off around a rando coming in

I'm gonna choose to see both sides here. Even if you're in community, nobody's gonna know you if it's your 1st time there. Not everybody has a a regular bar. Some people like to go to new places. And mean mugging and giving dirty looks to new people isn't wild to you?

so gay bars are usually a kind of closed off safe space for gay ppl, so I dont find it odd that the patreons of that bar would be standoffish when someone who they're not sure of walks in

Good point…. She wanted to left alone and they left her alone and she didn’t like it??? I’m just an Allie and a safe ride cause I don’t drink. But I don’t pretend to be apart of there community. They welcome me but I’m an outsider and that’s okay.

Honestly, men tend to be nicer to those they’re attracted to/are interested in (hence the whole “friend zone” thing and women being surprised if it isn’t turning into a relationship the guy disconnects). So she’s just not used to how she’d actually be treated as a person vs by a group of guys that see her as a potential mate. The “strange energy” is “disinterest”. Essentially how men are welcomed anywhere. Disinterest feels safe and she’s not used to not feeling that, she thinks safe means “protected by guys”.
