I respect him as a person, but I belive as a democratic socialist that he is truly misguided by what the left wants to achieve with government. Government isn't the end goal it's just the means to reach the end. If we could make it so that economic oppression, racial oppression, gender oppression, religious oppression, and all other kinds of oppression could just easily poof out of existence we would. The government is the fastest and most proven way to achieve these goals, we cant wait for the market to find it valuable to end oppression (which it never will), or for racists to suddenly stop discriminating (which they never will), misogynists to treat women fairly (which they never will), or for bigots to accept all LGBTQ+ folks (which they never will). Leaving these groups alone to thier own devices will lead to untold amounts of oppression, if it wasn't for government their would still be segregation and child labor.
