If you see it the way some do, that it is dark, that you will cease to exist, that death might be an escape for you from this life, I ask you to scratch that out of your mind for a second, and look from another angle. Maybe the future that you’re worried about, isn’t as scary as it seems right now. Maybe who you are, when you’re there, is different to how you feel now. Perhaps you might be anxious for bad news, or something good to end, but maybe that won’t happen. Maybe the future you are dreaming up with all your fears and anxieties is simply not the one you’ll inhabit. Death is assured, and it’s been a topic of taboo and Halloween for too long. Our culture is so far removed, so out of touch with living, that perhaps it’s because we look to death like an evil, like an end. Do not be afraid, what’s to come may look different. Whatever comes, be not anxious, it cures nothing. So much of sorrow is a self-fulfilled prophecy, and we feel vindicated in knowing that our ill-fate is coming, so we spend all our good fortune preparing for the worst, and when death does finally come, we look backwards at a life spent in preparation of a moment that was coming anyway.
