@dashaslens: Not quite what we expected 😳 Before going to Greece, I was a bit nervous. We heard about the swarm of earthquakes that kept happening for months leading up to our trip. But I never expected THIS. On our third day in Crete, the largest island in Greece and one of the southernmost points of Europe, a huge Saharan dust storm blew in that turned the sky orange. It reminded me of what the skies looked like after wildfires in Colorado, except the air didn't smell smoky. When it started to rain, the rain was actually brown, coating my camera and our car in dots of MUD. Despite all this, when we arrived at Preveli Beach with barely any people, it was an eerie but beautiful sight and one of the most unique landscapes I've ever seen: a freshwater river flowed into the Libyan Sea surrounded by one of Crete's biggest palm forests. If you want to do this hike, here are some details: 🚘 1.5 hour drive from Chania 🥾 4.4 miles, 869 ft of elevation gain 🗺️ For the trail map, look up "Preveli Beach" on @alltrails 📍If you don't want to do the whole hike, just park at Preveli Beach Parking and then walk down to the beach.
