In many other fields, an extremely necessary, high-stress job with significant worker shortages would result in increased wages and benefits to attract and retain new workers. Seems to me like teachers should getting paid a LOT more than they are.

I taught college for 5 years, 16 credits per semester. Then I also did summer classes to supplement my funding.

As a mother/steppyof 6, I think motherhood and teaching are two sides of the same coin. They will both age you tremendously but the difference is that with teaching, you can go home at the end of the day but that doesn’t mean the job ends there…I love my children DEARLY but they are little energy vampires. Coming from the point of view of a mother, 6 kids is A LOT. But coming from the point of view of a teacher, 6 is a cake walk. My hat goes off to you ❤️

After watching friends graduate and then slowly curl up like leaves off a tree. The only happy teachers I know are 1. Have emotional and financial help from family/partner. 2. Come from some money n privilege. 3. Are built for it and flow naturally through the workload. 4. Are minimum level output and are in a position where coasting worked.

oh dont forget that EVERY parent is an expert in teaching because they once went through school. parents also expect teachers to be available 24/7 to meet with them and discuss why little Johnny got a zero for turning in a completely blank worksheet.
