@the_geriatricmillennial: Does anyone kno anything about solar panels? Am I supposed to have a small electric bill? Is it supposed to save somewhere bc I’m not seeing it. #solarpanel #electricitybill #homeownership #momsover30 #millennialmom
Our solar panels here in Florida reduced our electric bill from about $400/mo to $100/mo in the summer. In the winter we sell energy back to Duke Energy and get credits on our bill. We also have a Tesla Powerwall 3 for whole house battery backup. It’s amazing for if we lose power during storms because it just keeps everything on like nothing happened. We paid for it out of pocket and got the tax rebate, so it has been a great investment for us.

You need to figure out how many Kw hours you use compared to how much the panels supply. I'm gonna say you need a lot more panels to run all that stuff.

Do you have a separate meter for your garage? Or is your garage tied into your house meter? If you have a separate meter for the garage most likely your panels are only hooked up to that meter and that is where you are seeing the reduction. If you don’t, then most likely your array isn’t large enough to really offset your usage. But I would def call and get some direct insight from the electric company.

They used to have to pay you back for excess electricity you produce. Electricity companies lobbied government and put a stop to that. Solar does not pay off and you will not end up ahead by the time they depreciated

We “sell” our solar credits to a company and they would give us $400 every 3 months. But then republicans passed laws so we get $20 now 🫠 im very confused about it tho and i let my husband deal with it 😅

My solar panels suck. They didn’t end up cutting our electric bill, it just added another monthly payment.

Are you using them? Like are they piping into your electric feed or battery pack?

It depends upon net metering laws in your state/area.

Our solar panels pay the entire electric bill and we bank anything extra. I will tell you squirrels are through the wiring last year and we had to have them fixd. We then added 'critter guard' 🙄

WNY’er here who looked into solar since we were on propane, no natural gas. You actually have to sell your solar to the company, and you don’t see a difference until you’re actually producing enough to do that. It was going to take covering my entire garage plus house plus panels in the yard to even power our whole house so chances are those panels aren’t doing a damn thing that’s why you’re not seeing a discount

First determine what it's wired to, could be power for just one area. Then look online at how it works in your state & electric company regarding selling it back to the power company. Then do some cursory research into storing your power at your house to use as needed. It could be set up so many different ways!

You need to find your solar grid/ community that you are in. Maybe the old owners are getting the credits

maybe it powers only the garage. would've been something your broker should've investigated before closing.

In my city you have to file a transfer of ownership with the electric company.

Find you meters you should have a meter for the main house and a separate NET meter with a PVS shutoff lever for the Panels if they are part of you entire house.
