I always thought I’d cry happy tears when I found out I was pregnant. But the truth is… I froze. I didn’t feel ready. I was scared of losing myself. Scared that my life, my identity, everything I’ve worked so hard for-would disappear the moment I became “mum.” I felt guilty for feeling that way, especially knowing how many women are praying for this miracle. But the truth is: you can be grateful and still feel overwhelmed. You can want the baby and still mourn your old self. Both can exist. The first trimester broke me open in ways I wasn’t prepared for. The fatigue. The food aversions. The mental fog. The journaling just to understand what I was feeling. I didn’t recognise my body or my thoughts. But slowly, through the fear and the fog… came clarity. Telling loved ones made it real. Seeing that little baby move on the ultrasound? That moment shifted everything. Now in my second trimester, I finally feel more grounded. More like me - just a softer, slower, evolving version. If you’re on this journey too, or planning to be one day, I want you to know: You don’t have to feel blissful to be a good mum. You don’t have to pretend to be glowing when you’re just trying to get through the day. You’re allowed to feel it all. And still, you are becoming exactly who you need to be. For them, and for you. 💛
