I remember in jr high it was $7 a foil, and trying to calculate how many foils I’d want and how much money I’d need to ask my parents for, and it would be doubled if you wanted colour, because $7 for the bleach and $7 for the color 😂

I have a client want ashy highlights but told me she lifts orange and doesn’t want to be orange but when I went to tone her she said what is that? I tried explaining best I could but I’m pretty sure she thought because she verbally said it to me that it would magically happen without toner.. idk loo

when i started doing hair in 2007 and that was what we pumped out. was hilarious trying to explain what 7 foils were gonna do. and it was always the older generation that got thier roots covered with 7 foils. shampoo with the base color cause they weren't gonna let you tone them.

We toned always but like 9v and clear pm shines for 3 minutes. It was still buttery blonde but it was bright and beautiful. Also remember in the early 2000s Paris Hilton blonde and kelly Clarkson hair. If you ashed someone out they would die.

Oh god ten foils, no gloss, straight across the top, horizontal sections ONLY. My first long term salon job was in an à la carte salon that had a much older clientele, and it was wild. They wanted to see piano keys or they were not happy!

There was a time when we put a rubber cap with holes on and we pulled clumps of hair through the holes and with a crochet hook. Then we slapped bleach on. That was a highlight. (Picture when cap first came off 🪱)Oh and we had different caps with different size holes. That determined how big of hair clumps got pulled.

I had a client (who wanted ashy highlights mind you!) tell me that they thought stylists only used toners if they messed up. Like ma’am I can’t just wave a wand and the foils to lift ash
