We are family — whether African, Caribbean, or African American — and like all families, we fight. We misunderstand. We lash out. We carry wounds passed down through generations, shaped by slavery, colonization, forced migration, and survival. Sometimes, the pain makes us see each other through cracked mirrors — distorted, incomplete.
But let’s be clear: division is not our natural state — it’s a symptom of centuries of trauma and calculated separation. We were scattered, not broken. Our dialects may differ, our passports may not match, and our histories may have diverged — but our roots remain entangled in the same soil.
No matter how loud the arguments get, we are still kin. And family doesn’t need to be perfect to be sacred.
So let’s fight smarter. Not against each other, but alongside each other. Because the truth is: they fear what we could become if we ever stopped fighting, and started building together
