@wholeparent: I know you probably hate me for this…. But The number of times that people ask me how I can possibly socialize my kids who spend all day socializing if I don’t send them to the place where they’re not allowed to socialize, is wild. To be clear, I say this as a champion of public education who affirms and celebrates teachers and wishes that we could change the system for kids and teachers a like.
elementary music teacher here- the arts. the answer you are looking for is the arts

They don't want any of them to. They're priming them for the 9-5 workplaces. They want bots, worker bees. This is why they want to dismantle the education system so badly.

Before and after school hours care. It’s great for social and emotional development.

The narrative is that public school is the pinnacle of socialization. 😳🙄

As a teacher I agree! My 15 year old after school doesn’t want to socialize because she is so drained.

I am shocked how often my homeschooled kids get complimented on being able to order their own food or talk to adults in public. Like when did speaking to a server become an accomplishment. Are other kids not able to order their own food?

Another reason I homeschool. My kids are extremely socialized.

Extracurriculars with vertical age structures let the oldest kids practice leadership and mentorship of the younger ones. Scouts and travel sports organizations come to mind.

I would be a massive pain in the neck parent for teachers to deal with about homework 😅 no one would be able to convince me that the whole eight hour day at school isn’t enough to cover what’s needed. I would not enforce doing homework. As long as they’re being respectful in class and learning the material as best they can, busy work is just unnecessary and honestly cruel to the child mind

hey man you're completely right. schooling hasn't really moved forward enough since the Victorian era. The right refuse to make decisions based on anything but feelings and when the left try to introduce evidence based practice the right call it communism or witchcraft or satanism or economically inviable. Public schools are designed to make factory workers and at the time the system was designed it didn't matter that it left children behind because if they dropped out of factory work they would be rounded up and put into work houses.

Agreed. It bothers me as an adult how much I was limited in terms of having opportunities to develop my social skills, and the long term effects on me.
