The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, signed in 1848, officially ended the Mexican-American War. In exchange for $15 million, Mexico ceded a vast territory to the United States, including California, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, most of Arizona and Colorado, and parts of Oklahoma, Kansas, and Wyoming. The treaty also established the Rio Grande as the southern border of Texas, effectively relinquishing Mexico’s claims to the region
