When I first met Freya, she was in a bad way. She was in pain, confused, and so desperate for a connection that it was being mistaken for aggression. I worked at the animal rescue she came into. Her shoulder was so badly injured from a chronic dislocation that the only option was to amputate her leg. I helped her through her recovery. Most of the other staff was afraid of her. Things got even tougher for her. After a week, she was returned to the rescue with a bite report, and the decision was made to euthanize her. But I knew that wasn't the real Freya. I could see that she wasn't a dangerous dog; she was just a dog who had never been taught how to handle love. I knew I had to give her a chance. Now, seeing her hopping around the park, full of life and personality, I know I made the right decision. Having only three legs has never held her back. She's a survivor, and she's taught me so much about resilience and love. I hope that by sharing Freya's story, people will see that dogs like her, the ones who are misunderstood and cast aside, are worth the time, the patience, and even the occasional chewed-up shoe.
