Well...Chinese "anime" is complicated by default. Rich and complicated. Great read, usually. Like "Feng Shen Ji" and "Tales of Demons and Gods"

As a novel reader I 100% agree. The adaptation isn't the best but i cant blame the production team as lotm is just so detailed and long that a 100% accurate adaptation is impossible. The novel is peak tho🙏

So I think people are thrown off by the deep lore but honestly each episode explains the last a bit more while opening new mysteries (get it). It was fast but that’s not their fault they were forced to speed to the clown fight by producers. I expect it to get better and better from here. It’s not like one piece explained everything from the beginning. It builds

I do agree with people saying the pacing is really fast, but if you can’t understand the plot or what’s happening in lotm by episode 5 then that’s simply a skill issue. The problem with the lotm anime is how Crunchyroll released of this series. They claim it was gonna have Japanese/English dub at the same time (which isn’t true), didn’t promote the series until the 2-3 episodes. And didn’t add the old man Neil lessons/chibi ending, which would help casual viewers understand the series more.

I feel like all Chinese animations start out complicated but that’s just how they do their stories. They’re not linear like most stories. They kind of drop you in the middle and then reveal it as a story progress

you’ll get it as it goes and all of it will be explained by the end but some stuff won’t be explain for a while due to being a mystery show and will be a bit confusing but they are butchering the character development

To be clear, you’re only supposed to understand 70-80% of it early on, as a lot more of the behind the scenes is explained later in the story, at which point everything starts making sense

I can't blame casual viewers. As a novel reader, LotM is genuinely complicated to understand. For perspective, I usually skim through most novels and still grasp them pretty well—even tearing up at the emotional parts. In contrast, with LotM, I had to read every single word carefully and really think about what it meant. 🤣🤣🤣
