Are you saying in my version John doesn’t give Clark morals. I literally say at the end John could’ve gone into a whole speech about how precious life is. Which would’ve made his killing of Zod even more impactful. John and Martha are the very ones who give Clark and Superman his morals. So when John says to Clark that “maybe” the kids should’ve died is completely out of character. Not to mention he didn’t even praise the good Clark did by saving the kids, bully and all. MOS is a great movie but for me Snyder didn’t take his time to research or understand any of the characters motives and adapt them to real life. I also get what you’re saying about a father wanting to protect their son. However John is a special type of character especially to Clark and Superman. You can’t just change him to what a real life person would do otherwise you lose the heart and hope of what Clark and Superman stands for. Also Clark and his father had a far more close father to son relationship than the one portrayed in MOS. In MOS he always seems to be at odds with whatever Clark chooses to do.
