would you say that name recognition thing carries over for something like Joker, for instance? A character who inherently has hundreds of writers and differing depictions already, yet the movie was so wildly different it was mostly only Joker in name? And what about how those stories would work otherwise, if it does share just enough with the source that making it an original film would label it as a knockoff of the thing it would have otherwise adapted?

So over on YT there are a bunch of Agatha Christ's Miss Marples .that are neither AL'S nor MissM. good short stories but no resemblance at all to either subjec.could have called them random elder lady mysteries. Not an adaptation just a name recognition grab.
