Ryan Jewers :
I have consistently said..this training methodology and FB programming style is for weaker gym goers (beginners). The more the external load, the more the stability demand increases, the less the MUR for the target tissue—so it’s either balancing it out or putting you at a net loss depending on your training age. Not to mention, no strong gym goer will enjoy having to fill up gympins for every exercise, nor will they enjoy doing 20+ sets in a workout. It’s tons of time loading stuff up, warming up, and then doing the exercise. Imagine doing 10 exercises and then having to pull 500 lbs off the ground still with max alertness. Lastly, and what I find the most funny, they aren’t truly “maximalists” with the programming either, there are many muscle regions and thus muscle fibers they are still missing out on and plus fatigue exists, so it’s literally impossible to be a true maximalist.

Why do "bodybuilders" get so annoyed when other people are trying to optimize training?

Was the wrist a limiting factor? No, your grip strength was.

I have been saying this for the longest when it comes to cuffs on certain movements. That extra load (especially when you get really strong) makes you have to externally stabilize soooo much more

Absolutely having to do ulnar deviation with the weight is a limitation for tricep recruitment in pushdowns. This is common sense… lol

A lot of good points. I think airing on the side of “this probably won’t harm me or cause LESS motor unit recruitment but might cause more” is my favorite approach.

It doesn't have to be a limiter for it to affect MUR no? Like the brain should be able to allocate more central motor commands to the tissue we actually want to target if other muscles are removed?

The stability demand isn't due to the decreased lever from cuff placement because the working set torque should be similar. The stability demand is inherent to all unilateral exercises which result in transverse rotation. And the whole point of trying to milk as much target muscle recruitment is to get the untouched high threshold fibers since an advanced lifter has grown all other fibers.

Less joints = more isolated. All you need to consider if there is a way to eliminate unnecessary joints then why not do them

Why would you want to develop a skill to increase MUR over time when you can use a cuff and have higher MUR than you ever would have mastering the skill of a d handle. Also a cuff won’t let you add on so much load that now your shoulder forgot how to stabilize, and if it adds slight instability, it’ll be compensated for very quickly.

People use cuffs so they can do a supinated and neutral grip

They love stability but do unilateral exercises that are more unstable by default

it makes sense on principles , it's basically a super-isolation. if you had a machine that'd obviously be preferable, but I see why they're using a cable instead.

Thank god someone said it, the act of “stabilizing” in that fashion leads to simply more instability especially for the bi lateral exercises 😭😭😭

Which is why we also use counter forces, for example there is the newton extensions and seat belting, which reduces the need to use another muscle to stabilize

It’s about taking a given joint out of a movement, for example the wrist joint, not any given “muscle”. But the take about moving the cuff higher to manipulate leverages being counterintuitive is completely correct
