When you walk into a store or restaurant with your pet, you’re falsely representing them as a service animal—whether you mean to or not. Why? Because service animals aren’t required to wear vests, so businesses assume any dog inside is a service animal. * In New Jersey, misrepresenting your pet as a service animal is a crime. Under N.J.S.A. 10:5-29.5, it’s illegal to claim your pet is a service animal if it’s not. Fines can reach up to $500 for the first offense and $1,000 for repeat offenses. * This isn’t just about laws—it’s about safety and respect. Fake service animals make businesses doubt legitimate teams like mine. We get harassed, questioned, and denied access because so many people abuse the system. On top of that, pets have: • Jumped from carts and been injured • Contaminated food areas (a huge FDA violation) • Attacked my service dog, putting both our lives at risk * Non-pet-friendly means just that—no pets.
