In the 70's the dollar lost his binding to gold The arc is still the same price in gold like in the 70's. The problem is the dollar, which is lower and lower in value, so the numbers go up for an arc. The guys in 70/80 who buyed had still the mindset of a currency in gold value, like it did before, so it surprised them, how Dollar value gone up with every year.

I’m young but have heard how rough the 80s were. Had some of the best sheep in northern Utah my grandpa bought a bunch of ground and newer equipment none of it worked out sheep got sold equipment and ground got repoed the only reason I get to farm really is a custom cutting buisness which led to us running more and more ground my family farm were really close to bein a victim of the 80s farmin

My grandpa always tells the story about how he had a chance to buy a quarter north of him and 80 west of him to 425 an acre in the 70s and said he will always regret not doing it (it would sell for 6000 now

In ‘86 we had $60 fat hogs. That was the only bright spot in ag was hogs. Interest in ‘87 was 11-12% that sucked.

Serious question....how does labs value going up make land payments easier? Its comforting to know if you do sell the land it will make money but I don't think any of us farmers ever think of flipping land for a profit

my dad passed on a 800 acre farm in 85 because my grandfather said it would be the worst financial decision of his life. Entire farm, 3 houses, shops, corrals sold for $750,000.

First 200 acres my husband bought was in 85 for $2500 per acer. He has farmed that land for 40 years. Land around us now is selling for 16k-20k.

It’s seems in New Zealand and Australia a lot of people kept their heads above water in the 80s with pig

The hogs kept a lot of our family’s afloat. It was hard work but I treated us very well during those times. No regrets!
