If it’s infected, lidocaine will not numb it. You need the infection to resolve first. Also appears they were attempting a nerve block to the finger. Definitely appropriate to go to urgent care for this issue and not an ER.

He numbed at the knuckle to perform what is called a “digital block”. We don’t inject directly into the nail. You can use “hurricane spray” directly to the nail and cut.
