@whitneylynallen: I used to get annoyed at my late husband, Ryan, when he left his shoes, work boots, or socks in random spots throughout the house. Each time I'd pick them up with frustration and throw them in the laundry basket or place them on the shoe rack. And then Ryan had his accident and he never came home. Before he went into anaphylactic shock he had gone to the gym and fatefully got stung by a bee on his way home. He came home and tossed his gym shoes off in the hallway like he always had before coming to talk to me. This was the last conversation we had. The last time I heard his voice and laugh. The last time I saw his smile. When I got home from the hospital after a week living close to the hospital when the doctors told us they didn't know if Ryan would survive, I went upstairs to go to bed and Ryan's gym shoes were still where he had thrown them off before our world fell apart. Those shoes were no longer a frustration or an annoyance. They represented my entire life before tragedy. They represented a time when the things I had the luxury of getting annoyed at were shoes and socks on the floor.
