In an uncertain future for marine mammal protection, it’s important to recognize and appreciate the beauty of the largest animals of earth. Even on an overcast day, this whale shone through the dark waters of the Pacific with a brilliant sapphire glow. Its thundering breath and stunning presence left me with a sense of awe. This is why we love our whales. While this year may have brought fewer blue whales to San Diego than recently, it has been an incredible privilege to share all of the whales and dolphins that grace our waters. #whales #whalebehavior #oceans #bluewhales
