third option. buying books for decor is rather silly lol so is fake plants. but you could mix all three options. less expense and more balance.

I love the plants and the picture idea! Maybe you could do a mix of both? You could also maybe try empty vases, maybe filling them with longer fake plants like lavender or cats tail depending on the season [happy]
