If you’re not bleeding at the gums and floss and brush routinely then you have no reason for a deep cleaning. I would say that the one that said you don’t need it is being honest. I would floss religiously until your next exam/regular cleaning it should improve it. I was a dental assistant for 10 yrs. Some dental offices can be money hungry.

I had not been to the dentist in 3 years too and when I went recently they told me I needed a deep clean too. They took pictures of the backs of all my teeth and when I saw them I was horrified. I clearly needed it from all the build up I had on my teeth at the gum line . So I would look at the pictures to see how much build up you have and have someone measure your pockets correctly. If the pockets are 5 then I would do it. If they are 3’s and 2’s and you don’t have much build up I would pass.

You probably improved your gums in the time between visits. You’re just paying more attention to your dental routine now. You’ll be good to come in for your next normal cleaning 6 months.

Dental care has turned into sales pitches. I'm not a dentist. I'd say skip the deep cleaning and start oil pulling.

deep cleanig is typically only needed for periodontal disease. It helps save your teeth .

I went to a new dentist and they told me the same thing, I needed a deep cleaning. I went somewhere else and they said I didn’t need it my gums are perfectly fine!

I work at a dental office. If you truly would’ve needed a deep cleaning, they wouldn’t have processed with a “regular cleaning” & would’ve waited to do the deep cleaning. Honestly doesn’t sound like you need one. If you’re not bleeding when brushing, or flossing & don’t experience bad breath i say don’t proceed with it.

Do not do a deep cleaning I feel like my teeth got worse from it . And now my teeth are sensitive.

Sounds like a scam and that the first office was $ hungry. This happened to me also, they were trying to tell me I needed things I didn’t really need

The numbers are for measuring your gum pockets, you typically want 1-3. If you only have 1 tooth that is a 5 then I wouldn't do a deep cleaning. I was just ask if there is an alternative option.. maybe more frequent cleanings until that gum pocket is tighter.

Find a office that shows u your X-rays goes over your perio charting numbers and scans read reviews 3rd opinion is ok friend especially if you left confused. Consider symptoms if you bleed easily, gym swollen or bad breath? Pockets of 4mm or deeper usually indicate need for deep cleaning. I’m a DA and love my job hopefully you find an office that gives you a better answer ❤️

I need to do a clean every 3 months because I build up plaque very quickly. I had 5s in the back bc of my plaque. They should be able to show you on the xray tbh

I wouldn’t do it. Deep cleans are needed for periodontal disease and they’re painful.

Sounds like dental preference. A lot of dental work is based on opinions if an X-ray isn’t involved in the situation

Rdh don’t do fillings, only cleanings! I’m a RDA, I say listen to the dentist and don’t get the deep cleaning or get a second opinion.

If anything you probably just need a localized Srp just to target the problem area

You should have asked for the dentist to check and let them know you got told two different things by both dental hygienists.

Girl idk I just had a deep cleaning a few months ago. IM SUPER ANXIOUS of the dental office. So I just agree to everything. BUT I’m shook u had a regular cleaning first then “recommended” a deep cleaning. Most times it’s deep cleaning first then follow up regular cleanings. TBH it’s up to you at this point 😂🥲 but they numb your whole mouth😟 I hated it but felt great after and saw a difference in my gums.
