I mean sphynxes are not actually hairless. they have a very thin and fine layer of fur in select spots, but its not on the sides and belly

The nurses that worked for the doctor who did my hysterectomy tried to pregnancy test me every time I went in. Would even tell me it's mandatory to have the test. 😂😂

There are tiny hairs there, even if you can’t see them when they drape the kitty she will feel those baby hairs 😭. Like the baby hairs on the back of your neck, you might not feel them or see them all the time but if they get pulled it freaking HURTS 😭😭😭

in fairness, there are sphinx cats that have some hair, others that have the barest peach fuzz. it could also just be that it's standard/required for liability reasons. it is also possible, tho highly unlikely given it sounds like you pet has been there before,that the vet tech hasn't seen a sphinx before and so doesn't know what it is
