In Chechnya, custody usually goes to the father. Keeping children with their mothers is often discouraged due to deeply rooted patriarchal beliefs. But these fathers rarely take custody out of love , they do it to satisfy their egos. Most don’t genuinely care about their children’s well-being. Just last year, the 13-year-old daughter of one of my mother’s distant relatives jumped from a balcony and took her own life because of the @buse she endured from her stepmother.
