When I was working retail, I would ask you a question twice. The first is general, the second specific to your need. If I felt you were being intentionally difficult, I'd just walk away. No, I did not last long in retail.

I would pick up the medium one and ask if that's what they were wanting. Make it a yes or no so they have to give you an answer. When I worked at Arby's in the morning, when they actually still had breakfast, we'd get a few a day trying to pull this and if you rang up the small, they'd demand they wanted the medium and if we did medium, they'd demand to get it for free because we rang in the wrong size.

I used to work at a concession stand sort of thing and I'd have a similar conversation with at least two older men every month (reoccurring antique event). I finally got it out of them, one thought regular was small and one meant large! literally told one about the other
