In the beginning i focused on making the food better so that more people would like it- and to be clear, i dont think theres anything wrong with that. Like it completely makes sense. And it works. If you have really good food, people want it. Ironically, once my food was good, i stopped caring if people liked it. But i do think this is still because of the previous social approval. “I know 1000 people like my food, i dont care if you do.” As much as id like to say “i dont need people to like my food,” and as much as i consciously think that- if nobody liked my food, it would be pretty hard to convince myself it was good. It does make sense. For basically all of human history it’s been evolutionarily advantageous to be liked. You get more opportunities, better choice of mate, more resources, and so on. My friend said something to me in a friendly debate that turned me on to this idea. He asked, “when was the last time you did something entirely alone and told no one about it?” And i legit did not have an answer. Maybe its just me who knows. Interesting stuff to me.
