I get this. I’m 57 and I feel incredibly untrained to care for my 85 year old mom who has dementia. Suddenly I have to be a CNA and understand medications and how to address health conditions. It is overwhelming to me bc I don’t want to do anything mistakenly to harm her. I’m doing my best and following various groups to learn how to do this!

Girllll it’s okay to feel overwhelmed. You’re carrying something that most people haven’t had to face—and it makes sense that you feel unprepared. No one is really ready to become a caregiver, especially not when it’s sudden or tied to someone you love so deeply like your mom. I became my grandmother caregiver after she had her Stroke 2020 so I get it ..they so use to doing for themselves they definitely give you hard way go and from watching how your mom personally is i know you have your test lol but it get better ..every need help give me call

Hang in there, you got this. I took care of two parents from 2016-2024, until they both passed and yes, it is difficult. Just keep a positive attitude. Ask the Lord for guidance and be kind. Give her a BIG kiss every day as if it were her last.

Did it for 10 years for my mom and you are spot on with your fears. It’s tough to lose out on your own life. But family is everything and your mom absolutely knows who shows up and makes her feel important and loved. It’s the hardest thing ever. And the cliches do NOT help. But you will never regret it in the end… the beginning and the middle… you will absolutely question yourself and your sanity. Hang tight to your love for her. It’s your North Star now 💕

I took care of my mom for 8 years, put my life on hold, she’s passed now, but I’m so thankful I was able to care for her and create memories. It is a double edged sword, I would do anything to get my life with her back ❤️
