Not all boomers were working. I was beginning high school. Maybe the older boomers in their 20’s.

I was a boomer making minimum wage. I wasn't anywhere close to buying a house. I could only buy a house after 2 college degrees and 20 years of work.

OMG! First u blame Gen X for not returning & giving u our jobs. Now u blame the Boomers for using what their Silent Gen. parents taught them. B frugal & save. What's next? Blame the Silent Gen for living through WWII, food lines, gas rationing & raising their children as best they could!

The youngest of boomers and the oldest of Gen X are also still working and in their late 50s or early 60s. I love to sell my house and downsize especially with my $14,000 property tax bill among other things. The problem is I could downsize to half the square footage in the same area but I can’t afford to. Why would I do that when that smaller home would have a little cost savings. Maybe my property taxes would be a little lower. Maybe I’d have a little less maintenance and maintenance cost. But overall, I’d save nothing and the people you’re talking about couldn’t afford the added cost of the property taxes on this house. Which over the last 10 years has increased over $6000

I’m seeing these videos a lot the math does not math. Nobody’s buying houses on minimum wage now or in 1970. I’m not even sure what this is other than an excuse. And since nobody is buying a house on minimum wage and a 1970 was $1.65 and the average price of a house was 16,000. That being said if the average cost of a house today is 170,000 you would need to make $17 an hour. With that math. And we know that’s not happening.

Boomers didn't have $2000 cell phones, internet bills, free TV, phone bill was dirt cheap, ubers, door dash, Amazon prime , or cable bills. Drop all that stuff and your money will stretch.

Boomers who are making minimum wage in the 70s were not buying homes. They were renting apartments with roommates.

you are absolutely correct and when did the real estate investment funds really start taking hold and jacking up the prices of housing? I'll help you with that right after covid while Biden was president. but the foundational groundwork for what allowed the real estate investment funds to take off like they did was a result of policies put in place by the Obama Administration.

I love how its their grandparents fault. Wonder if they walk up to them & tell them "Thanks for having mom or dad so I'd be born and not be able to buy shit. Its your fault grandma". 40 years from now itll be their fault 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

My Boomer mom had no "buying power" in the 70/80s. Didn't help she was divorced. When you "dislike" an entire large group of individuals because you think they ALL had it better than you is beyond horrifying.
make tomorrow better than today.

it's not people's fault that the US dollar was taken off the gold stand in the early 70's and the governments have been devlauing the dollar like crazy since then printing it like there is no consequences. which is why you should never save money. you should take the US dollar byluy appreciating assets that go up in value. so you can buy houses and other appreciating assets that you can borrow against and buy more appreciating assets. rinse, repeat, recyxle

The median cost of a house in 1970 was 3 times the median income about $27k. They were not buying homes on minimum wage. Median wage was roughly $9500 yearly. Minimum wage was $1.45 to $1.60 = $3016 to $3328. Nobody was getting a mortgage making a 3rd of the median income.
