what about when you love someone who has or developed an addiction or is simply in survival mode and can’t even see it. There is a lot of things I don’t think are bad issues to support changing in your partner.

I love him for him however when I express something that bothers me or try to bring up something he did that hurt me he screams in my face like I did something wrong for sharing my feelings or my part so therefore he isn’t someone I love anymore

They might've said they were 'happy' with where they were but we accept the devil we know and fear the one we don't. I had to learn that they were scared of more cause they couldn't move past the pain of what life had given them and see what life had to offer. I tried my best and they couldn't meet me. so I had to level up alone. and I know I tried my best. I was on the receiving end of abuse from a narcissist, a manic depressive with BPD. Accept them for who they are. Let them go. And here is this biggest part... YOU DID NOT FAIL BY LEAVING. YOU DID YOUR BEST AND THEY COULDN'T ACCEPT IT. IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT. YOU DO DESERVE MORE AND YOU DIDN'T FAIL BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T SEE THE LOVE YOU HAD TO GIVE.

In this day and age, rarely is a man loved for who he is. More often certain qualities are loved about him while maintaining the thought of we can change the others, "He will change for me if he loves me". It has been said women, children, and dogs are loved unconditionally but a man is only loved based on what he can provide. Hollywood and media has warped the mind with the fairytale thought that if a man loves you he will change the world. And men do it, end up miserable, and then its "I don't know why he is like this, he changed."

I agree to an extent but that’s a hell of a job finding someone that meets every single one of your standards. Sometimes people have to change in relationships if they want to make it work.
